Star Factor Coach

Mariam Korangy - Star Factor Coach​With over a decade of experience teaching at public and private schools in New York, Mariam Korangy is a Star Factor coach, guiding school leaders to hone their skills in the theory and practice of emotional intelligence. Mariam is also a senior consultant at The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence where she develops online tools to support the implementation and usage of RULER—the center’s approach to social and emotional growth, especially in academic contexts. She is also developing a table game for RULER for Families that can be used in both classrooms and homes.

Mariam is currently a doctoral candidate in Communications and Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College. She studies the impacts of technology and gaming on learning and standardized test performance among young students. Additionally, Mariam serves on the President’s Advisory Council at Teachers College and the Newcomb-Tulane College Dean’s Advisory Board.
Mariam’s experience includes her position as a Literacy Liaison at The School at Columbia University where she was a founding faculty member. She was on the curriculum design team, assessed students, trained teachers, and met with every teacher group in the school. While working for Channel Thirteen/ PBS, Mariam helped design lesson plans, instructional strategies, a video delivery system, and other educational resources. At the Manhattan School for Children, she was a Reading Recovery Teacher. Her accomplishments there include being chosen to model reading recovery lessons for teacher-leaders in training at New York University, and serving on the School Leadership Committee to foster a sense of community throughout school activities, and overseeing a New Reports Committee to create new report cards for the entire school.

Interesting Facts

I have enjoyed serving as a Board Member and Treasurer for the Bilingual Montessori School of Paris Endowment Fund and currently serve on the MeetingHouse Board of Directors. In the past, I have been a Committee Co-Chair for the Central Park Conservancy Playground Partners, as well as volunteering for the Parents League, the Junior League of New York, and the Lower East Side Girls Club. I also love spending time with my kids and cooking.

What I love about coaching: For me, one of the most fulfilling aspects of coaching is offering leaders the skills needed to create improved learning climates. I believe that cultivating nurturing learning environments helps both every school member reach their full potential.
