Fran Levy, Ph. D.

Fran Levy was among the original certified Star Factor coaches. Her career with the New York City Department of Education included classroom teacher, reading teacher,staff developer, school improvement facilitator, director of funded programs, director of instruction and professional development and over 7 years as the principal of P.S. 22 Queens.

With her expertise in literacy development and language learning applied to the programs at P.S.22, student achievement improved each year under her leadership. Success of her school was recognized by the New York City Department of Education and the New York State Education Department for outstanding improvement in literacy and mathematics achievement. Through partnerships with a variety of New York City arts organizations, her school programs, including visual arts, a thriving chorus and string orchestra, were also recognized for outstanding arts education. Her extensive program for English language learners, including new arrivals, became a model for many other schools in the district.

After retiring from the New York City School system, Dr. Levy served the children of New York City in a variety of ways. She mentored new and inexperienced school principals through New Visions for Public Schools; served as an adjunct professor at the Hunter College Leadership Center, supervising the administrative interns in the Administration and Supervision program. As a Star Factor coach, she has coached superintendents, PLFs and principals. As a coach, she loves using her expertise in instruction, administration and supervision to improve the culture of the schools she serves.

Dr. Levy and her husband split their time between their two homes in Pound Ridge, New York and New York City. In her leisure time she hikes locally and around the world and spoils her eight grandchildren.
